Find out more about Hearing & Balance Testing and Diagnosis.

Hearing disorders are a very common problem that affects people of all ages and walks of life. Hearing loss can affect young children with recurring ear infections or older patients with age and/or noise related hearing decline. Hearing loss is known as a "silent handicap", because it is not readily apparent to others. To visit our web site on hearing loss, please click on the following link: www.medfordhearingaids.com.

The Oregon Ear, Nose and Throat (OENT) physicians are trained in both the medical and surgical treatment of hearing, ear infections, balance disorders, ear noise (tinnitus), nerve pain, and facial and cranial nerve disorders. Wealso manage congenital (birth) disorders of the outer and inner ear. OENT also has highly trained doctors of audiology who provide thorough, accurate, and convenient audiologic testing on site in our clinic.

This testing includes:

  • Standard hearing tests, which measure hearing thresholds at different pitches as well as the ability to understand speech.
  • Pediatric Visual Response Audiometry, which allows for the assessment of hearing in young children.
  • Tympanograms, which measure the mobility of the ear drum and the small bones, or ossicles, that transmit sound vibrations into the inner ear.
  • Videonystagmogram (VNG) testing, which measures the function of the balance apparatus in the inner ear.

In order to treat dizziness, the OENT physicians will determine whether you are experiencing vertigo or lightheadedness, and will look for the cause. Treatment options may consist of physical or occupational therapy, lifestyle changes, vestibular rehabilitation, medications, or surgery.
